Diversity most accurately describes the case load at Elgin Veterinary Hospital. Our veterinarians treat, on average, over 13,000 cases per year, with all equine disciplines being represented, ranging from racing Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds, to western performance horses and pleasure horses. From internal medicine to neonatal medicine to reproduction, our team regularly sees and is equipped to treat any variety of case. From conception to parturition, our team is focused on the health of our patients. We offer artificial insemination services, embryo transfer and high-risk pregnancy management and monitoring. EVH veterinarians regularly perform over 1,000 surgical procedures annually. We offer a full range of both soft tissue and orthopaedic surgical services, including arthroscopy, fracture repair, laparoscopy, laryngeal/pharyngeal surgery and reproductive surgery. Emergency surgery represents a large percentage of our case load, as our team is experienced and equipped to perform exploratory celiotomy (colic surgery), caesarean section, and fracture repair procedures at any time, day or night. The post-operative care of these cases is continuous as our overnight staff strives to provide the highest level of around-the-clock care of intensive cases. Lameness and sports medicine comprise a large percentage of our daily outpatient case load. We utilize and offer many imaging modalities to aid in lameness and performance limitation diagnosis including diagnostic ultrasound, digital radiography, standing diagnostic needle arthroscopy, and upper airway endoscopy/gastroscopy. EVH offers standing MRI (Hallmarq) on site on both an in-house and a referral basis. To keep our patients sound and performing at their best, we utilize IRAP, platelet-rich plasma, stem-cell therapy, extracorporeal shockwave therapy and acupuncture by certified veterinarians. Our team lives to provide the highest level of patient care, diagnosis and therapy for our patients, but also strives to promote education and training of the next generation of equine veterinarians. We have two or three equine intern veterinarians that spend an intensive year at EVH, experiencing every facet of equine medicine and surgery. Our interns are integral to the care of our patients, experience a fast tempo of hands-on learning, and are very much an important part of the EVH family. We welcome veterinary students for externships as well and we offer on-site housing for visiting externs. Education is a cornerstone of our culture at EVH and we enjoy teaching those that will make up the bright future of equine practice! Come see us! Pl inumPractice www.texasequineva.com • page 27
