www.texasequineva.com • 5 MESSAGE FROM THE Point As we count down the days until the arrival of cooler fall weather, we reflect back on another successful Summer Symposium. After coming off of a record 10th anniversary year, we continued a growing trend this year by having the largest number of attendees to date. The most exciting part, though, is that we had the largest number of first time attendees! This is wonderful because TEVA wants to do all we can to get the younger generation involved–—they are the future of our profession. Also this year, under the guidance of Dr. David Stephens, our silent and live auction raised a record breaking $69,765! This money will go directly to scholarships, disaster relief, equitarian projects, student activities, and the EDCC. Thank you to all who supported this great cause, let's continue the overwhelming generosity and keep it going next year! We would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of the sponsors—we could not have done it without you. We truly hope that each of you who attended the Symposium felt that you received high quality continuing education in a fun, collegial atmosphere. If you did, our mission was accomplished. TEVA is beyond fortunate for the leadership of executive director, Sara Green, as well as the Board of Directors for the time commitment that they so generously give. Dr. Jake Hersman and Dr. Bart Sirman ended their board terms this year and deserve a huge thanks for all of their work and contributions. We welcomed Dr. Cleet Griffin and Dr. David Stephens and look forward to adding their positive marks to those that have preceded. Last fall, the Board of Directors gathered for a strategic planning meeting that outlined the future and direction of TEVA. One important topic we discussed is our membership growth and the eventual need to move to a larger venue for our Summer Symposium. The 2021 meeting will be planned by Dr. Leslie Easterwood and it will be structured as a wet-lab based meeting. This format, along with the current growth of our membership, have prompted the need to investigate other venues that will be more amenable to this. As such, we are currently planning a venue change to the North Texas area for the 2021 year. We hope that each of you will look forward to this venue change and we will be providing more information on this during the upcoming year. In the meantime, we plan on seeing each of you back in Horseshoe Bay in 2020 for an outstanding program put together by Dr. John Janicek. The future of TEVA is strong and we are doing great things! This organization is much more than a summer CE meeting. The TEVA Foundation has provided a number of student scholarships. It has provided help and aide during times of natural disasters not only in Texas but throughout the US. It has supported numerous equitarian missions. TEVA has come to be recognized as the premiere regional equine veterinary organization in our industry. Through the continuing education opportunities provided, it allows veterinary professionals to obtain the most progressive continuing education while allowing each of us to establish lifelong friendships and colleagues. I am truly grateful and honored to serve as this year's president, and I challenge and encourage each of you to continue to contribute and be involved in this wonderful organization. See you in 2020, if not before! JoLy Joyce, DVM, DACVS PRESIDENT
