www.texasequineva.com • 5 MESSAGE FROM THE Point Happy New Year everyone! I hope that each of you were able to take some time for yourselves and spend good quality time with family and friends over the holiday season. There are a lot of exciting things in store for the upcoming year, and as your 2020 TEVA President, I challenge each of you to become involved, renew your membership, serve on committees that interest you, and reach out if there is anything that we, as a board, can do to make TEVA better. Having just returned from AAEP in Denver, it always amazes me how large our national organization is and how many equine veterinarians and professionals there are. Sometimes the number of people at the AAEP meeting is overwhelming. It was a great meeting, but there is something else that always makes our summer TEVA meeting one of my favorite CE's. I think it's the intimacy of our group and our location, in addition to the exceptional quality of speakers and CE that we get. There's just something about our Texas meeting that is comfortable. Having said this, it is important to realize that we don't serve just Texas. We are a regional organization and one of our goals is to continue to grow our membership and recruit from surrounding states. I am happy to report that our membership is indeed growing and therefore in an effort to look to the future and anticipate the continuing growth of our organization, we must be open to changing venues to accommodate our growth. This first venue change will occur in 2021. The 2020 symposium will be held at Horseshoe Bay Resort, and Dr. John Janicek has a great line of speakers that you will not want to miss. It will be a fabulous meeting! In 2021, Dr. Leslie Easterwood is planning a wet lab based meeting. Due to this format, and in an effort to recruit from more surrounding states, we have elected to have the 2021 Symposium at the Worthington Renaissance in Fort Worth, with the wet lab sections being held at Will Rogers. We realize that this will be a change from our normal, small, intimate venue at Horseshoe Bay Resort, but we feel that this is a positive move for our organization. We are not committed to the Worthington for any length of time so there will always be the option of returning to Horseshoe Bay Resort in the future if it can accommodate our growth. So, we ask that each of you be open to the 2021 venue change and start making plans to attend. In the meantime, we expect to see your smiling faces at Horseshoe Bay for the 2020 meeting. Additionally, don't forget the other CE opportunities we have coming up as well. The Vet PD, the Boutique. Whether you are about to be swamped with breeding and babies or swamped with everyday equine medicine, I wish you a happy new year! As one of my favorite mentors, Dr. Gary Baxter, told me at AAEP this year . . . don't forget to stop and smell the roses along the way––time has a way of getting away from us. Great advice! JoLy Joyce, DVM, DACVS PRESIDENT
