MESSAGE FROM THE Point
Dear Colleagues,
As I sit down to write the usual quarterly message for the spring edition
of The Remuda, there's nothing very usual about this message. Although
spring time is here, the wildflowers are blooming, and there are babies
being born and babies being made, the current COVID-19 pandemic is
occupying everyone's mind right now. While we are in the midst of ever-
changing recommendations from our state and local authorities on how to
weather this storm, one thing remains constant—our desire to maintain the
ability to care for our patients while ensuring the health and safety of our
clients, staff, and families.
In an effort to keep all our members as updated as possible, TEVA has created a link on the website for specific
information pertaining to COVID-19 for veterinarians. (www.texasequineva.com). Sara and Blaine will be
updating the site regularly with reliable, veterinary related information. Additionally, there is a message
board that veterinarians can access to communicate with each other.
As of now, our summer continuing education programs are continuing as planned. Dr. Michelle Bessire has
put together an exciting boutique meeting focused on neurology with Dr. Steve Reed. This will be held on
June 4–5, 2020 at the TAMU Hotel and Conference Center. Dr. John Janicek has fabulous speakers lined up
for the summer Symposium in August. Remember, this will be our last year at Horseshoe Bay Resort before
moving the meeting location to the Worthington Renaissance hotel in Fort Worth. Let's all hope that the
current situation will pass and we will be able to attend the boutique meeting and symposium so we can all
see each other and get some of the best continuing education around! We will continue to communicate with
the members and if there are any changes to this, and we will let you know immediately.
Our membership is strong. Our organization is strong. Our foundation is strong. It is this strength that will
see us through these strange and trying times. I remember my grandma used to say, "this too shall pass." In
the meantime, I encourage each of you to stay safe, stay in touch, and take some time to get out (while social
distancing!) and enjoy the beauty of our nature that surrounds us.
Virtual hugs to you all,
JoLy Joyce, DVM, DACVS
