Location: Elm Fork (Downstairs) CEU: 1 LECTURE 108: CARDIAC MURMURS IN THE HORSE SPEAKER: Kari Bevevino, DVM, DACVIM-LA This lecture will discuss complete cardiac auscultation in the horse as well as other aspects of physical examination that are pertinent in the evaluation of the horse with possible cardiac disease. We will focus on the description of cardiac murmurs including grade, timing, duration, character, shape, and point of maximal intensity. Using these descriptors, we will generate differentials diagnoses for equine murmurs. In addition, we will discuss the recommended steps for complete cardiac evaluation and the safety concerns for equine athletes with cardiac disease. In this lecture a review of anatomy and common injuries will be discussed. Front line Diagnostic Imaging includes radiographs and ultrasound. Tips and tricks on radiograph acquisition and ultrasound examination will be presented to help these skill aiding in diagnosis in this complex anatomy. Cases with specific abnormalities and outcome will be reviewed. Location: Pecos 1 LECTURE 106: TENDON SHEATH EFFUSION, WHAT'S THE CAUSE? SPEAKER: KURT SELBERG, DVM, DACVR The tendon sheath is a complex structure that houses the flexor tendons and intimately associated with several ligaments. Asymmetric and acute effusion in the sheath often necessitates further investigation with imaging. The lecture will review causes of tendon sheath effusion and how best to image and document these lesions.
