Veterinary Medicine is changing. We are witnessing a never-before-seen changing of the tide in equine medicine. Previously, equine medicine had a reputation for over-working and under- paying new associates. The current equine practitioner in the south-central United States is making the highest wages, categorically, in the nation - both in internships and in their first years of practice. This is an exciting time to be entering equine veterinary medicine… Our biggest challenge? Our biggest challenge is cultivating a sustainable way to practice equine medicine. But we believe that by encouraging a network of fellow veterinarians who are supportive, encouraging and helpful, we can make the first years in practice easier and keep our younger practitioners in the field. equine medicine is a great place to be. In 2023 we welcomed our first board member to the TEVA Board of Directors, who once was a TEVA Student Member! We are excited to have been a small part of Dr. Ricci Karkula-Warnock's journey in equine medicine and are looking forward to her impact on our Board. Networking Events Job Fair A casual atmosphere organized by our Student Representatives. These events encourage a time of fellowship and conversation between established practitioners and students. These have been successful in encouraging camaraderie between classes and networking for post-veterinary school jobs and connections. Texas Equine Foundation partners with the student chapter of equine practitioners at Texas A&M University to host a student job fair in conjunction with their annual Wet Lab at Texas A&M University. We believe the more opportunities we can provide for students to network with established veterinarians, the better! 2023 Veterinary students from around the southwest region attended the 2023 Symposium at zero cost to them. It was a wonderful opportunity to network with future employers as well as our peers in the industry. I really enjoyed this experience." - 2023 SYMPOSIUM STUDENT ATTENDEE "I had a great experience and am super grateful to have had such a trip sponsored by TEVA! I learned and networked a lot and it was 100% worth it in my eyes. The hands on experience alone was incredible and the fact that clinicians would give of their time just to teach us made me feel welcomed and supported!" - 2023 SYMPOSIUM STUDENT ATTENDEE
