Strickland case is a great example of what organized veterinary medicine does for our profession. I would be willing to wager that the majority of equine veterinarians had not heard of this case prior to reading Elizabeth Choate's article in this issue. Had the TVMA not been on watch and willing to invest in providing legal defense, it is possible that an entirely new industry would have opened up for trial lawyers. Facing a wrongful death lawsuit is stressful enough, but can you imagine a scenario where you must also worry about a patient's court assigned emotional value? Can you imagine insurance costs in a state where there is potential to collect unlimited non- economical damages when a dog is hit by a car? This terrible ruling had the potential to not only increase professional liability and property insurance, but potentially all personal insurance costs as well. Veterinarians in the state of Texas are indebted to the TVMA and other local organized veterinary organizations. This case is just one recent example of the value of supporting organized veterinary medicine and the TVMA. As a veterinarian in the state of Texas I say "Thank You" to the TVMA and encourage you to do the same. I would also like to welcome you to our first issue of The Remuda since we have taken control of design and publications. We are very excited about the changes we have made to the magazine. We are offering discounted advertising rates to all of our TEVA supporting sponsors and are very grateful to have the support of PulseVet, Purina, Bioniche, Arthrodynamic Technologies, and Myristol in this, our inaugural issue. Please feel free to contact Sara Green or Dr. John Janicek, the chair of our publications committee, if you are interested in advertising or would like to be added to our mailing list. We will continue publishing the magazine quarterly and it will be filled with informative material and information on our upcoming CE opportunities. 2014 SUMMER SYMPOSIUM AUGUST 7-9, 2014 HORSESHOE BAY RESORT, MARBLE FALLS, TEXAS save the date!
