lA MESA EquINE lAMENESS CENTER
La Mesa Veterinary
Associates in Pilot Point,
Texas, was founded in 1989
by Dr. Alan Donnell as a
general equine practice. In
1998, Dr. Donnell redirected
the focus of the practice to
specialize in sports medicine,
in the process renaming the practice La Mesa
Equine Lameness Center. In 2002, in order to
expand the practice nationwide, the first Equine
Sports Medicine semi-trailer was built. Owing
to its success, additional semi-trailers were
added to the Equine Sports Medicine fleet in
2004 and 2006. Committed to staying abreast
of the constantly evolving technologies for the
equine veterinary practice, the state-of-the-
art La Mesa facility utilizes the most current
diagnostic and therapeutic tools for the equine
athlete.
Initially receiving a business degree at
Southwestern Oklahoma State University,
Alan Donnell went on to pursue his Veterinary
degree at Oklahoma State University College of
Veterinary Medicine, from which he graduated
in 1984. The newly minted Dr. Donnell moved
to Pilot Point, Texas, in June of 1984, where
he became an associate veterinarian to the renowned Dr. David
McCarroll. When Dr. McCarroll left the area in 1985, Dr. Donnell
joined Equine Medical Associates, also of Pilot
Point, where he remained until 1989 when he
established La Mesa Clinic, a facility designed
by and built to Dr. Donnell's specifications.
While remaining actively involved with the La
Mesa practice, and travelling with the Equine
Sports Medicine trailers, Dr. Donnell also
finds time to act as a Veterinary Delegate and
a treating veterinarian for the FEI. He attended
the 2002, 2006, and 2010 World Equestrian
Games as a team veterinarian. Furthermore, as
a Veterinary Delegate, Dr. Donnell officiates at
numerous FEI events throughout the year.
La Mesa Equine Lameness Center is also home
to veterinary associates. Dr. Josh Donnell and
Dr. Amanda Ramseyer. Dr. Ramseyer works
closely with Dr. Donnell in the day-to-day
practice, while Josh is currently in the final year
of the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at Colorado
State University. Once completed, Josh will be rejoining the staff
full time in 2015.
