Location: Elm Fork (Downstairs) CEU: 1 LECTURE 110: ARRHYTHMIAS IN THE HORSE SPEAKER: Kari Bevevino, DVM, DACVIM-LA This lecture will discuss rhythm analysis in the horse using both auscultation and electrocardiogram (ECG). We will briefly review some of the equipment available for generating an equine ECG and the possible benefits that each has to offer. I will introduce a step-by-step approach to equine ECG analysis as well as discuss some of the common arrhythmias that can be seen in horses. Lastly, we will discuss treatment for arrythmias in the horse. Location: Pecos 1 CEU: 1 LECTURE 109: RADIOGRAPHY AND ULTRASOUND OF THE NECK, WHAT ARE WE LOOKING AT? SPEAKER: Kurt Selberg, DVM, DACVR The equine neck has received a lot of attention in the past few years, especially with advanced imaging allowing complete evaluation of the neck. However the front line for diagnosis with horses presenting for neck stiffness to forelimb lameness still remains radiographs and ultrasound. This region because of the symmetric overlapping anatomy poses challenges with radiographic interpretation. Tips in tricks on obtaining and interpreting radiographs and ultrasound of the neck will be discussed. Cases with specific abnormalities to illustrate common disease processes will be presented. 1:00PM—1:50PM FRIDAY FRIDAY AUGUST 2 Location: Pecos 1 CEU: 1 2:00PM—2:50PM Location: Elm Fork (Downstairs) CEU: 1 LECTURE 112: ENSURING COMPLIANCE: A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO VETERINARY RADIATION SAFETY AND INSPECTION PROCEDURES SPEAKER: Rick Croy This presentation offers a thorough exploration of the regulatory requirements and best practices for operating veterinary radiation machines. Attendees will gain a detailed understanding of how to access necessary forms, prepare for unannounced inspections, comply with equipment performance evaluations, and respond appropriately to notices of violations. The session will cover essential topics such as the maintenance of compliance with agency rules, the importance of quality assurance and quality control for digital systems, and corrective actions for non-compliance issues. By the end of this presentation, participants will be equipped with the knowledge needed to ensure their facilities adhere to the Texas Department of State Health Services regulations, thereby promoting safety and compliance in veterinary radiographic practices. LECTURE 111: INVESTIGATION OF LAMENESS IN THE TARSUS AND PROXIMAL METATARSUS SPEAKER: Kurt Selberg, DVM, DACVR The tarsus and proximal suspensory region are the most common sites for hind limb lameness. To further complicate this region there is overlapping blocking patterns for these regions and concurrent injury in the distal tarsal joints and proximal suspensory ligament. A review of blocking, anatomy and specific injuries using Advanced Imaging and radiographs/ultrasound will be presented. LONG BREAK IN THE TRADESHOW Tradeshow closes at the conclusion of this break 3:00PM—3:30PM Location: Grand Ballroom
