In addition, methods to preserve semen for both cooled and frozen semen will be conducted, with emphasis on cushioned centrifugation, centrifugal centrifugation methodology, and extenders and techniques used for cryopreservation of semen. Finally, the technique for epididymal sperm recovery (as a method of genetic preservation in sub-fertile, ill, or deceased stallions) will be conducted. The wet lab will be two hours and will be repeated for the second session. Both Dr. Varner and Dr. Hernandez-Aviles will teach on both sections. Limited space available in each lab to ensure adequate teaching time for all students. In the wet lab, I will offer an overview of the CRASH examination focusing on technique and the clinical questions that it is intended to answer. The CRASH examination consists of nine sonographic windows to evaluate the heart and thorax in a time-sensitive manner. CRASH is intended to be used as supplement to physical examination and to help guide practitioners in determining further diagnostics and/or possible emergent therapy. The CRASH examination is not intended to replace comprehensive echocardiography and should not be used in such manner. Hour 2: Equine ECG Rhythm Analysis This wet lab will offer a review of the step-by-step approach to equine ECGs as presented in the arrhythmia lecture. Each participant will then receive multiple printed equine ECGs to analyze. Once individuals have had time to evaluate the ECGs on their own, we will go through each ECG as a group to generate a diagnosis, additional diagnostic plan, and possible treatment plan. The wet lab will be two hours and will be repeated for the second session. Both Dr. Bevevino will teach the same material in each section Limited space available in each lab to ensure adequate teaching time for all students.
